Case Study Cheevara
Project Overview
About the Project
Cheevara is an e-commerce platform dedicated to preserving and promoting Bengali traditional craftsmanship. The marketplace focuses on handwoven textiles, artisanal home decor, and heritage-inspired fashion, providing a bridge between skilled artisans and modern consumers.
The project’s goal was to blend cultural authenticity with a seamless online shopping experience, ensuring that the design reflected the rich history of Bengali craftsmanship while maintaining modern usability standards.
My Role & Responsibilities
As a UI/UX Designer, I was responsible for leading the design process from research to final execution. My tasks included understanding user behavior, creating an intuitive shopping experience, and developing a visually rich interface that reflects the essence of Bengali tradition. Additionally, I worked on optimizing navigation, streamlining the checkout process, and ensuring a smooth user journey from product discovery to purchase.
Design Approach
Research revealed that users value storytelling, trust authenticity, and prefer visually engaging product displays. To address these insights, I structured the website with clear navigation, category-based browsing, and an immersive homepage highlighting artisan craftsmanship. The UI was designed with deep reds, golds, and traditional Bengali motifs to reflect cultural richness. Product pages featured high-quality images, artisan stories, and trust-building elements like authenticity badges and customer testimonials.
To improve conversions, the checkout process was simplified with guest checkout, auto-fill options, and regional payment methods. A progress indicator was added to ensure clarity and reduce cart abandonment.
Challenges & Solutions
Balancing traditional aesthetics with modern UX was a challenge, solved by incorporating cultural elements while maintaining a clean and intuitive interface. Trust issues with handcrafted products were addressed through detailed product descriptions, artisan profiles, and transparency features. To improve engagement, personalized recommendations and a curated blog section were added.
Outcome & Key Takeaways
The redesign led to a 40% faster checkout process, reduced cart abandonment, and increased user engagement. The combination of cultural storytelling and optimized UX resulted in higher trust and repeat purchases. Moving forward, further refinements such as A/B testing and video-based artisan storytelling will enhance the platform’s impact.
